Frenectomy

frenectomy

A frenectomy is a procedure that consists of releasing the tissue under the tongue/upper/lower lip to allow for normal range of motion. The restriction of movement can cause difficulty in breastfeeding, and in some instances other health problems. This includes dental decay(due to difficulty in cleansing the area), gingival recession, speech issues, diastema or spacing, and digestive issues.

At Pediatric Dental Care, these concerns can be addressed with a simple procedure using our specialized soft tissue laser. There is no cutting or sutures involved. After the area is easily anesthetized, the frenum is cauterized using light energy. There is almost no bleeding from the laser procedure. Lasers sterilize at touch therefore have less risk of infection. The healing is quick and the laser stimulates bio-regeneration and healing, leaving a beautiful result with less chance of relapse.
